Before in-row and other close-coupled cooling strategies were introduced 10 years ago, most data center facilities were built using perimeter-style CRAH (computer room air handler) and CRAC (computer room air conditioner) systems. Even today, larger enterprise, colocation, and cloud sites use downflow perimeter unitswith raised access floors for air distribution.
Many people don’t realize, however, that today’s perimeter CRAH/CRAC is very different from those installed a few years ago. Variable speed EC (electronically commutated) fans and intelligent control systems enable today’s designs to more efficiently match a data center’s cooling demand.
So, how do you know if your system is performing efficiently?
CyrusOne supports the most demanding global customers with flexible and scalable colocation solutions using proven, innovative technologies.
What does Compu Dynamics do for CyrusOne? They’re a full-service provider for us. They’ve done structured cabling and power installations, general construction, security installs, and physical cage wall installs. They literally are our go-to for everything that comes up—especially when there’s an emergency and we need a quick response.
What made you decide to work with Compu Dynamics? How did you hear about them?
We’re new to the market, so one of our business development managers who had been in the market for years already knew Lee and Steve, and he recommended that we talk to them. They fill the gaps that we need.
Compu Dynamics is a sponsor at the 2015 Bisnow DICE Data Center Investment Conference & Expo. Held on July 15 in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia, this conference offers the nation’s data center executives the chance to network and meet with companies like Compu Dynamics.
This year, speakers will discuss the shift to the cloud, construction trends, the growing popularity of co-location, higher levels of cybersecurity, consolidation pressure, fiber trends, the value of energy savings, and more.
Stop by the Compu Dynamics booth and say hi to Steve, Lee, Brian Ducharme, Brian Boswell, Mark, and Kelly!
In addition, Compu Dynamics is sponsoring the following upcoming conferences:
Compu Dynamics recently worked with Fairfax County, Virginia, to retrofit their parking garage lights to LED lights. We replaced hundreds of outdated, not-so-environmentally-friendly light bulbs with more energy-efficient LEDs—also reducing the number of fixtures. This project reduced the energy used by about 60 percent, saving the county a significant amount of energy and money.
You recently joined Compu Dynamics. What brought you there? What’s your background? The opportunity to join a positive work environment that fosters teamwork and mutual respect. I’ve been in the commercial electrical industry for 30 years—the last 20 years have been in the data center arena, working in both traditional and modular data centers. My experience ranges from complete design build data centers to small, pod-style build-outs.
What does your role as Director of Electrical Operations entail? Complete management of the electrical division, to include managing our existing clients, new business development, project management, and some estimating and technical support for the field staff.
From regular monitoring and maintenance to emergency diagnostics and repair services, Compu Dynamics offers complete mechanical and electrical services to keep your facility performing at its best.
